The Colony trash & recycling schedule

Weekly green trash cart (Republic). Bag all trash inside the cart — no bags or boxes outside it. Out by 7 a.m. at the alley edge or driveway flares; lids fully closed; carts at least 3 ft from the nearest object. Service runs 7 a.m.–7 p.m. Bring carts back within 24 hours (city ordinance). Extra trash carts are available for a monthly utility-bill charge.

Recycling	Weekly blue recycle cart on your trash day. Same set-out window and 3 ft clearance. Accepted: plastics #1–#7, metal cans and aluminum foil, cardboard/newspapers/magazines, paper and paper containers (shredded paper in a paper bag), rinsed glass bottles/jars (lids on, dry). Not accepted: plastic bags/wrappers, greasy pizza boxes, soiled paper, construction waste, diapers, Styrofoam, food, electronics, batteries, tools, toys, clothing, medical waste, scrap metal. Bulk	Twice a month on a designated Monday: if your trash day is Tue/Wed → 1st and 3rd Mondays; if Thu/Fri → 2nd and 4th Mondays. Up to 4 cubic yards (about four washing machines). Bag-and-tie loose items ≤50 lb. Wood/carpet ≤4 ft; cabinets/hot tubs cut in half; Freon appliances tagged by a certified tech; drain water appliances; remove oil/gas from mowers. Place in your normal collection area. Separate green waste every Monday (paper lawn bags or a personal plastic container — no plastic bags; brush ≤4 ft bundles ≤40 lb; up to 4 cu yd). When

Trash/recycling carts out by 7 a.m. (service 7 a.m.–7 p.m.); return carts within 24 hours. Bulk on designated Mondays by 7 a.m. in the normal collection area. Green waste every Monday by 7 a.m.

Where

Front-entry: as close to the street as you can, facing the street, not in the street; ≥3 ft from other carts, fences, vehicles, plants/trees. Rear-entry: as close to the alley as you can, facing the alley, not in the alley; same 3 ft clearance. Bulk in the normal collection area.

Limits

Bulk ≤4 cu yd twice monthly; green waste ≤4 cu yd every Monday; no bags/boxes outside the trash cart; additional trash cart monthly fee on the utility bill; extra recycle carts free; landfill pass 1 free/quarter (+$25 extras).

Brush

Green waste: grass/leaves/weeds/small brush in paper lawn bags or a personal plastic container (not plastic bags). Tree limbs/brush ≤4 ft lengths, tied with biodegradable material, ≤40 lb per bundle.

Not allowed

Bulk won’t take: electronics of any kind, HHW liquids, large construction debris (concrete, flooring, gravel, long lumber, rocks, roofing, tile), large metal objects, steel/fence posts, tires, TVs. Green waste won’t take: household trash, dirt, oil, sod, pet waste. HHW/e-waste → city HHW Collection Center (5576 N Colony Blvd) with ID/utility bill.

Bags

Bag all trash inside the green cart; recyclables in the blue cart per the accepted list; lids closed.

Fees and fines

Holidays

From the city Trash and Recycling FAQ (checked Oct 15, 2026): observed holidays are New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day; when the holiday falls on a trash day, that day and the rest of the week delay one day (Tue→Wed … Fri→Sat). Green waste (Mondays) and bulk Mondays also delay one day on those holidays (Monday bulk/green → Tuesday per Republic municipality note).
