Denton trash & recycling schedule
Green city cart, weekly. Bag all trash; lid closed. Out by 7 a.m. (no earlier than 6 p.m. the day before); wheels against the curb; 4 ft from other carts, mailboxes, vehicles, and obstacles. Extra kitchen bags outside the cart are $5 each (13-gallon max, up to 5/week) and get billed automatically — they’re not bulky. Boxes of trash are charged as remodeling at $25/cu yd.

Set-out checklist
City rules before collection day. Confirm with the city if anything looks off.
When
Out no earlier than 6 p.m. the day before and by 7 a.m. on collection day. Pull containers and any uncollected materials by 8 a.m. the day after.
Where
Wheels against the curb/street edge; at least 4 ft from mailboxes, vehicles, other carts, and obstacles; lids closed and contents secure. After collection, store carts out of front-yard public view (garage, side/rear of the house) unless you’ve got approval otherwise.
Limits
2 bulky items/week included ($5 each additional). Brush up to 4 cu yd/week included (about four washers), then auto-billed overage (~$18.75/15 min on the 2026 guide). Extra trash bags $5 each (max 5 of 13-gal). Remodeling/unscheduled $25/cu yd. Yard-waste cart one-time $20. Appliance/electronics collection $20/item (2026 guide).
Brush
Brush (limbs/branches/bushes) cut to 6 ft, within 4 ft of the curb, not under power lines or trees. No call-ahead needed for ≤4 cu yd/week. Yard waste (grass, leaves, weeds, uncooked fruit/veg scraps, loose coffee grounds) in the city brown yard-waste cart or Kraft paper bags only — plastic bags aren’t collected.
Not allowed
Bulky excludes construction/remodeling materials and trash bags. Yard waste cart excludes plastic bags, potting material, pet waste, soil/soil-mix bags, rocks, fencing. Recycling excludes plastic bags, Styrofoam, food/liquids, textiles, bagged recycling. Chemicals, batteries, and bulbs go to HCC — not the trash cart.
Bags
Bag all trash in the green cart. Never bag recycling. Yard waste loose in the cart or Kraft bags only.
Fees and fines
Solid Waste / Bulky pages don’t list set-out citation dollar amounts. Service fees as above ($5 bag, $5 extra bulky, $25/cu yd remodeling, brush overage). Improperly contained garbage/recyclables aren’t collected (Code Ch. 24 Art. II Sec. 24-43).

From the city’s 2026 Solid Waste & Recycling Service Guide holiday table (checked Oct 15, 2026): Jan. 1 Thu→Fri; Jan. 19 / May 25 / Sept. 7 all-week one-day delay; Nov. 11 Wed→Thu and Thu→Fri; Nov. 26 Thu→Fri; Dec. 24 no change to residential collection. Christmas Day 2026 (Fri, Dec. 25) and New Year’s Day 2027 aren’t on that 2026 guide — left unpublished until the city posts them.
